Madeline S. Firmanto 6B
“Architecture is important because the history will not continue on to the next generations without it. Old architecture gives us evidence that the history is real and the identity of our city will be everlastingly known as the ‘city of heroes’. The identity will increase the tourism level which then affects the economy of Surabaya and the pride of the citizen.”

“If we only have malls in our city, it will be less interesting because all malls have the same things inside them. Old buildings, however, have different functions, history and beauty of design. If we preserve the buildings well, tourists’ level will rise and will make a great profit for our city. Our next generation can also learn what architectures in the past look like.”

“Historical architecture in Surabaya is needed to be preserved for the pride, identity and knowledge. Actually there are many Surabaya architectures that are beautiful, yet unfortunately many people don’t know about it. We need to promote our historical buildings to make Surabaya become special and rich with culture.

“Past architecture is our heritage passed on to generations through the designs of Surabaya’s old buildings. Preserving the architecture means gaining interest on tourism locally and globally. Old architecture is very unique and beautiful as well.”
